Painting the Dark Ecology

Painting the Dark Ecology is a visual exploration of environmental philosopher Timothy Morton's dark ecology theory through the medium of paint and mixed media. The project therefore engages with the ecological crisis not only as an environmental issue but as a cultural one, confronting life and death, the aftermath of Colonialism, extinction and habitat loss. It manifests as Vanitas symbolism, distressed palimpsest surfaces, hybrid and posthuman forms and an overarching sense of melancholia and the uncanny.
